                                                                       PANCHAKARMA

Panchakarma therapy is designed to eradicate the vitiated dosas, to maintain a state of normalcy and equilibrium which is the fundamental basis of Health.

Panchakarma - Ayurvedic Complete Detoxification and Cleansing Therapy.

PANCHA KARMA HAS THREE STEPS:-

        I.      POORVAKARMA (PREPARATORY PROCEDURES)

      II.      PRADHANA KARMA (MAIN THERAPY)

    III.      PASCHAT KARMA (AFTER THERAPY CARE).

I. POORVA KARMA:Internal appetizers, digestants, External Oleation and Lubrication with various herbal oils and Clarified butter taken orally. External lubrication with massages, oil gargles, Oiling of the ear canal etc. Medicated Fomentation to induce perspiration and removing impurities through sweat glands. 

II. PRADHANA KARMA:

Pradhana Karma means the "five therapies".

The 5 therapies for eliminating toxins from the body are

 

1.   Vamana                   (Emesis)

2.   Virechanam            (Purgation)

3.   Nasya                      (Nasal errhines)

4.   Vasti                        (Both Sneha And Kashaya Enema)

5.   Raktamokshana.    (Blood Letting Therapy)

 

This series of five therapies help to remove deep rooted toxins (Ama Dosa) from the body that cause stress and several illnesses by balancing the three doshas (energies that govern all biological functions).

 

III. PASCHAT KARMA:

    Includes internal medication (to enhance the Panchakarma therapy effect and to maintain health for a long period).

 

 

Panchakarma Diet

           Panchakarma Therapy gives effective result if special detoxification diet is taken along with the treatments. Every individual undergoing Panchakarma should consume a special diet which is advised by the doctor.

 

 

1. VAMANA              (EMESIS):

          Vamana is to expel out the vitiated dosas through the oral route. A medicated emesis therapy which removes Kapha toxins collected in the body and the respiratory tract. This is given to people with high Kapha imbalance. Daily treatment involves loosening and mobilizing the toxins in an effort to finally eliminate them.

 

Benefits of Vamana: Bronchial Asthma, Chronic Allergies, Hay Fever, Vitiligo, Psoriasis, Hyperacidity, Chronic Indigestion Nasal Congestion, Edema, Obesity, Psychological disorders, Skin disorders.

           

 

2.VIRECHANA        (Purgation):

           Virechana is medicated purgation therapy which removes Pitta toxins from the body that are accumulated in the liver and gallbladder; it completely cleanses the gastro-intestinal tract. It is a safe procedure without side effects.

 

Benefits of Virechana: help root out Chronic Fever, Diabetes, Asthma, Skin disorders such as Herpes, Paraplegia, Hemiplegia Joint disorders, Digestive disorders, and Constipation, Hyperacidity, Vitiligo, Psoriasis, Headaches, Elephantiasis and Gynecological disorders.

 

 

3. VASTI                    (Enema or Colonic Irrigation):

          Vasti (Enema) is supposed to be the principal and specific therapy for Vatik disorders and a major therapy in all Panchakarma treatments since it cleanses the accumulated toxins from all the 3 doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha through the colon. The object is to eliminate vitiated dosas with the return of enema material through anal passage and to produce effects of introduced enema medicaments. Vasti is also highly beneficial as a rejuvenating treatment. Medicated oil or ghee or herbal decoction is given as enema to clean the colon and increase the muscle tone. This procedure is usually applied for 8 to 30 days, based on the medical condition of a person.

4. NASYA                  (Nose Cleaning):

           Nasya involves administration of medicated oil or powder through the nasal passage to cleanse accumulated Kapha toxins from the head and neck region. Based on the medical condition of a person, it can be given upto 30 days.               

Benefits of Nasya:  Include Trigeminal Neuralgia, Bell’s Palsy, Improves memory & eye sight, Insomnia, Elimination of excess Mucus Hyper pigmentation in the face, Pre-mature graying of hair, clarity to voice, Headaches of various origin Hemiplegia, Loss of smell and taste, Frozen shoulder, Migraine, Stiffness of the neck, Nasal Allergies Nasal Polyp, Neurological dysfunctions, Paraplegia, Sinusitis.

 

 

5. PAKTAMOKSHANA (Blood Letting Therapy):

          Raktamokshana is procedure to cleanse the blood and is advised only in very rare conditions. It is not advisable during general Panchakarma. Most Ayurveda Centers including ours do not offer Raktamokshana due to the high risk of infection involved in blood cleansing.
